AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)

BCA is now an enrollment site for AIDS Drug Assistance Program. ADAP provides medication to treat HIV or prevent related serious deterioration of health. Drugs provided and eligibility criteria are determined by the State of California with a focus on serving low income individuals. For more information or enrollment assistance, contact Ben Hayes at (415) 615-9945, ext. 117.

Black LGBT Community-Focused Activities

Forums, movie nights, arts and culture "salons," an annual Health and Wellness Leadership Retreat, and an Advisory Council are components of a privately-funded community-building program in place at BCA. These services complement our publicly funded HIV-related services and help us counter the isolation and marginalization that contribute to poorer health outcomes among Black LGBT. Check the calendar for dates for these activities. For more information, contact Francis Broome at (415) 615-9945, ext. 114.

Case Management/Counseling

As a trusted community organization with a long history in San Francisco’s Black community, BCA has extensive access to culturally competent resources for HIV-positive individuals. BCA's case management services ensure that people living with HIV have access to public and private benefits, housing, quality medical care and other social services and information for healthy living. BCA also offers an array of prevention and health wellness services to increase awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health issues. Counseling about HIV risks and transmission is provided confidentially by health education and counseling staff at BCA. For more information, contact Ben Hayes at (415) 615-9945, ext. 117, or Phillip Watson at (415) 615-9945, ext. 108.

Community Outreach and Health Education

Community Outreach and Health Education is provided by BCA's outreach and health education team in underserved neighborhoods, such as Bayview Hunters Point, South of Market, Visitacion Valley, the Tenderloin and the Western Addition. This team is knowledgeable about health resources and services that are available for residents. If you have questions about BCA’s community outreach services, contact Francis Broome at (415) 615-9945, ext. 114.

CONNECTED

CONNECTED is a weekly drop-in group on Mondays for African American HIV+ men. This group is designed to increase awareness about the many co-factors that impact HIV+ health. Those issues include dealing with stigma, disclosing to family, friends or sexual partners, deciding if or when to start HIV medication, understanding how behavior change works, giving and getting support, and how to improve our health. CONNECTED looks at how we make decisions and their impact on health and, in the process, guides us towards positive change. For more information, contact Francis Broome at (415) 615-9945, ext. 114.

Complementary Alternative Medicine

BCA’s Complementary Alternative Medicine includes massage, chiropractic, reflexology, light therapy, and acupuncture services provided especially for those living with chronic illness. Sessions are usually held on Saturday. For more information, contact Mark Matthews at (415) 615-9945, ext. 115.

Rafiki Housing

BCA's Rafiki Housing Program began in 1991 when our first transitional housing program in Bayview Hunters Point was opened. Brandy Moore House is the crown jewel of Rafiki Housing and is named in memory of co-founder William “Brandy” Moore, a staunch advocate for fair housing and HIV/AIDS prevention for San Francisco’s Black community. This 11-bed transitional house provides a comforting, supportive and empowering program model to residents dealing with HIV/AIDS, homelessness, substance abuse, and/or mental health concerns. For more information, contact Randall Flagg at (415) 615-9945, ext. 112, or Ed Byrom at (415) 615-9945, ext. 120.

Straight Black Men's Drop-In Group

TeleHealth

BCA is participating with UCSF/360 Program in a newly-formed telemedicine network of medical clinics in San Francisco using live video technology to address health education between patients and providers in a confidential setting. Patients can come to BCA and have face-to-face conversations with a primary care specialist, nutritionist and/or pharmacist. The health education provided is supplemental support to the patients and does not take the place of appointments with patients' existing primary care providers. Appointments are made on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning. For more information, call Tewedros (Teddy) Teketel at (415) 615-9945, ext. 116. Click here to view flyer.
