BCA has been serving the San Francisco African American community for 25 years to meet the urgent needs of the Black HIV/AIDS population that was under-served by existing agencies and services.
Over time we have created targeted programs and services to address the most acute needs of the San Francisco African American population. We strive to reverse the history of significant health inequalities that affect the Black community among the population as a whole.
We served over 2,500 individuals in 2010 alone. Now we need your help to continue to make a difference in our community. Please donate now
Your donation will go directly into client services and programs, with minimal money used for administrative overhead. Our goal is to maximize each dollar to serve our local community.
Since 2010, we have augmented our small staff with graduate nursing students from the University of San Francisco, interns from San Francisco State University and volunteers to serve our clients most effectively.
This year 15 Gates Millennium Scholars volunteered one-half day of their time at BCA via HandsOn Bay Area. Amazingly, the Scholars packaged 30,000 outreach post cards into 25-card sets and packaged enough safe sex and hygiene kits to fill two barrels. Volunteerism is good!
Become a volunteer at BCA. We’ll contact you to match your interests with our needs.

"BCA is about housing, counseling, food, medical information and support. All of those things you can get here in this one place, and it’s real support, not the red tape stuff that you go through with a lot of other organizations. At BCA they actually get to know who you are as a person and find out what works for you. Here, your culture and your background does matter, and it factors into how you get your treatment, your housing, and your nutrition. Every factor of your personality, your person is considered in giving you treatment. Here at BCA, they do a very good job of it."

"Today my life is structured. Giving back to my community is a strong point. I’m making things happen. I’m not playing around today. I lost a lot of time back in my day. Today I’m staying strong because my HIV doesn’t stop me. I am LIVING, I’m giving back! And now I can’t complain because if I do, it’s a waste of time. Things are good for me, and I’m gonna live strong."

"I’ve had a relationship with BCA since 2003. BCA has been supportive of me through a number of challenges and as a result, I really do appreciate the work that BCA performs for several reasons. The certificates that I’ve received for having completed workshops have helped me get employment. BCA has an accessible staff of many races, colors and creeds, and the staff has given me help in all aspects of HIV. BCA recognizes that its clients often have needs – BCA provides food, food, food, movie tickets, and other incentives. What I appreciate most, though, are the friendships, love and acceptance."
